As a Software Defined Network Engineer, you will work with a world class team developing and deploying new technologies on a cutting-edge network. The ViaSat terrestrial network is comprised of a global complex Transport network of private and public high capacity core nodes, multi-tenant residential and mobile applications, requiring you to innovate, design and develop in the world of SDN, NFV and Network Virtualization. You will design, develop and deploy new and innovative technology into a service provider network. ViaSat’s unique position as a service provider and equipment manufacturer allows you to experience the whole life cycle of networking software development – all the way from design to deployment. You will work with senior engineers to aid in design, documentation, DevOps, analyses, validation, and test execution, to ensure deployed networks meet design and client needs.

Requirements
8+ years Software Defined Network Engineering experience with software development capability using Python, Ansible, Go or modern programming language
Architecture and design experience with Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV)
Knowledge of basic OS features like Multi-threading, virtualization, synchronization and memory management on Linux or Linux-like Operating systems
Excellent understanding of IPv4/v6 routing and switching, advanced network communication protocols such as BGP, MPLS, GRE, VxLAN, EVPN, IPSec, VPN, Multicast, Segment Routing, and PBR
Excellent knowledge of Network Automation and Orchestration platforms using OpenConfig, RESTconf, Netconf, and YANG modeling
Hands-on experience with software release management in Agile environment using pipelines
Excellent knowledge of Juniper, Arista, Cisco, Fortinet, Infinera, Adva, and Ciena network gear
Familiarity with wireless access technologies such as: WiFi, LTE and satellite communications characteristics and their impact on network protocol and architecture design
Familiarity with cloud services – IaaS, PaaS, AWS & Google Cloud
Possess a DevOps mindset
BSEE/BSCS or technical Bachelor’s degree
Up to 10% domestic and international travel

Preferences
Experience developing IP/MPLS core network in a service provider environment.
Strong background in data structures and algorithm design
Familiarity with OpenDayLight, tail-f, Disaggregated Network OS (DNOS), WhiteBox development, ONAP.ORG are a strong plus
Juniper, Arista or Cisco certifications
Proficient in software development tools, source code control environment
Accountable for end-to-end functional/solution design for product features
